History and personalities

The Württemberg State Sports Association was founded on November 25, 1951 in Stuttgart through the merger of the State Sports Association Württemberg-Nord and the State Sports Association Württemberg-Hohenzollern . The then President of the German Sports Confederation, Willi Daume , traveled to Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt especially to see the merger of the two sports federations to form the Württemberg State Sports Association together with the Prime Minister of North Württemberg, Reinhold Maier , and the President of South Württemberg, Gebhard Müller to attend. Herbert Ammer from Reutlingen was elected the first president of the WLSB by a large majority when the Württemberg State Sports Association was founded in the Kursaal in Bad Cannstatt .

On November 3, 1973, the three sports federations of Württemberg, Baden-North and Baden-South as well as 75 sports associations declared their accession to the newly founded State Sports Association of Baden-Württemberg (LSV) . Membership in the LSV is, so to speak, a sport-political move: Here the three sports federations in Württemberg, North and South Baden recognize as independent associations, there signal the Baden-Württemberg unity of sport towards the state and the German Sports Confederation. Hans Gmelin , Federal Chairman of the WLSB and Lord Mayor of Tübingen , was elected as the first President of the LSV .
