history

In 1946, the Catholic Church Foundation acquired the land on Bergskopf on the southern foothills of the Mehlberg, on which the quarry stone masonry chapel was built, from the property owner Barbara Metz. Also in 1946, the war returnees created the graves on both sides of the chapel. The facility was inaugurated on October 16, 1946 by Würzburg Bishop Matthias Ehrenfried .

The memorial belonging to the complex was built in 1909 and commemorates those who fell from Steinach in the Franco-German War of 1870/71. It was originally located on Steinach's market square and was transferred to the war memorial site on April 25, 1974.

A way of the cross leads from the exit of Steinach to the chapel, which ends with the cross next to the chapel (14th station).
