history

The place was created around 1148 as an independent farm. Rothenfels, Windheim and Bergrothenfels merged in 1686 to form a community association, which was dissolved on October 1, 1822 and Bergrothenfels became independent again.

In 1862 the district office Lohr am Main was formed, on whose administrative area Bergrothenfels was located. In 1871, however, Bergrothenfels came to the Marktheidenfeld district office on the occasion of the reform of the layout of the Bavarian district offices and returned to the Lohr district office on January 1, 1880. As everywhere in the German Reich , the term district was introduced in 1939. Bergrothenfels was now one of the 26 communities in the Lohr am Main district . In 1971 Bergrothenfels decided to incorporate it into Rothenfels as part of the municipal regional reform, which took place on January 1, 1972. With the dissolution of the Lohr district, Rothenfels came to the newly formed Mittelmain district on July 1, 1972, which on May 1, 1973 was named the Main-Spessart district .
