Report from the Interior is an autobiographical book by the American author Paul Auster , published in 2013 with the original title Report from the Interior . In 2014 the German translation by Werner Schmitz was published by Rowohlt-Verlag .

The content of the first part, which is called like the book, is the development of perception and views in political and religious terms in the remembered self-perception of the author from the first memories up to around the age of 12. The second part contains, Two blows to the head , extensive retellings of the two films The Incredible Story of Mr. C. from 1957 (director: Jack Arnold ) and Hunt for James A. from 1932, directed by Mervyn LeRoy . The topic here is the description of the effects of these films on oyster. The third part of the book, Time Capsule , contains excerpts from letters to his long-time girlfriend and later first wife, Lydia Davis , from the late 1960s and early 1970s. In the fourth part, album , there are photos selected with reference to the first three chapters and with captions from these chapters, including from the two films.

Jürgen Brôcan wrote in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung : Together with the Winter Journal (published the year before) Auster has “reached the peak of his work and presented a breathtaking panorama of a person in America in the second half of the 20th century.” Judith von Sternburg writes in the Frankfurter Rundschau , Auster continued the self-exploration from the winter journal "sovereign" and wrote about the second part, the film descriptions, that "the moviegoer proves how words are stronger and more impressive than pictures".
