Berna Biotech
The Berna Biotech AG , headquartered in Bern is a Swiss biotechnology company that specializes in the development and production of vaccines has specialized. It has been part of the Dutch biotechnology company Crucell since it was acquired in 2006 .
Berna Biotech goes back to the Swiss Serum and Vaccination Institute Bern , which was founded in 1898 from a merger of the Institut Vaccinal Suisse, founded in Lancy in 1883, and the Häfliger, Vogt & Cie. Company , founded in Bern in 1895 . arose and initially produced vaccines against smallpox , then also against diphtheria , cholera , polio , typhoid , meningitis , hepatitis B and influenza . In 2015, Crucell was bought by Johnson & Johnson. The plant in Bern has been operating under the name Janssen Vaccines AG since then. The plant in Thörishaus, however, was sold and taken over by the Californian company PaxVax.
