The Bernacchi Head is a rugged cliff of Franklin Island in the Antarctic Ross Sea . It forms the southern branch of the island
Participants in the Southern Cross Expedition (1898–1900) under the direction of the Norwegian polar explorer Carsten Egeberg Borchgrevink named it in 1900 initially as "Cape Bernacchi" after Louis Bernacchi , the Australian physicist of the expedition. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names changed this name Intended to avoid confusion with Cape Bernacchi on the Scott coast of East Antarctica Victoria Land.
