Bernadett Szél (2013)

Bernadett Szél (born March 9, 1977 in Pécs ) is a Hungarian economist and politician. She has been a member of the Hungarian parliament for the Lehet Más a Politika party since 2012 and has been a non-party member since October 2018.

Career

Bernadett Szél attended the Miklós-Zrínyi-Gymnasium in Zalaegerszeg and graduated from the Corvinus University Budapest in 2000 with a degree in economics .

Between 2000 and 2002 she worked for Philip Morris in the corporate relations department. From March to June 2002 she was the program manager of an aid organization for refugees in the field of human rights ( Menedék - Migránsokat Segítő Egyesület ).

From September 2002, she was a researcher at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for three years . In 2006 she became a statistician and EU consultant for the Central Statistical Office in Hungary.

Her research areas are family sociology, family policy and governmental design options. She was a member of several research groups and also took part in various international projects. Szél is fluent in English and German. She has lived in Budakeszi with her husband and two daughters since 2002 .

Political activities

Szél joined the Lehet Más a Politika party in 2010 , previously she was involved in the “Humanist Movement”. In the parliamentary elections in 2010 she ran as a direct candidate and in the local elections she ran for the mayor's office in Budakeszi. The LMP party's congress in 2011 elected her as spokesperson for the party. She received her mandate in the Hungarian parliament on February 2, 2012 via the country list, as a member of her party resigned from her seat. On the XXIII. In 2013 she was elected as co-chairman at the party's congress, along with her party colleague András Schiffer . In the same year she also became the party's parliamentary group leader.

On September 30, 2017, she was officially elected as a candidate for prime ministeriality at the LMP party congress. In the parliamentary elections in 2018 , she received her mandate for parliament via first place on the state list.

In October 2018, she resigned from the LMP party and at the same time resigned her group chairmanship. Since then she has been a non-party member of parliament.
