Bernard Gates
Bernard Gates (born April 23, 1686 in The Hague , † November 15, 1773 in North Aston , Oxfordshire ) was an English composer and singer (bass).
Life
Gates had been a chorister for the Chapel Royal since 1697 . He later became a gentleman and in 1727 Master of the Children of the Chapel Royal. In 1731 he performed Handel's oratorio Esther with the Chapel Royal choirboys . He was also a member of the Choir of Westminster Abbey and Canon of St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle and a founding member of the Academy of Vocal Music .
After his wife died, he moved to North Aston in 1756. His final resting place is in the north cloister of Westminster Abbey.
