Bernard Joy (born October 29, 1911 in Fulham , † July 18, 1984 in Kenton ) was an English football player , journalist and teacher .
life and career
Joy studied at the University of London , where he played football for the university club. After graduating, he played for the London amateur club Casuals FC and was even captain of the team through good performances. The Casuals won the FA Amateur Cup in 1936 . He also played 15 games for the English amateur national team and took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin with the British football team. Before World War II , the defensive player played at Southend United , Fulham FC and Arsenal FC as an amateur. The amateur footballer at the time was called up for the English national football team on May 9, 1936 , as the last amateur to this day. In 1938 Joy won the English championship as a regular with Arsenal FC. After the outbreak of World War II, he continued to act for the Gunners in the Football League War Cup . He played football until 1948. After that he worked as a teacher and journalist. Joy was a correspondent for the Evening Standard and the Sunday Express until 1976. He wrote the first club history for Arsenal FC Forward Arsenal in 1952. In 1984, Bernard Joy died at the age of 72.
