Bernard Michael Gilroy (born October 10, 1956 in New York City , USA ) is an American economist and holder of the Chair of Macro Theory and International Economic Relations at the University of Paderborn .

Life

Bernard Michael Gilroy attended the Roselle Park Elementary School in New Jersey , USA from 1961 to 1970 and then the Roselle Park High School there until 1974.

Gilroy studied from 1974 to 1978 at Upsala College in New Jersey, USA and obtained his Bachelor of Arts (with honors) in the subject "Multinational Corporate Studies / German Translation Program". During his bachelor's degree, he took part as an exchange student in the Rutgers University Junior Year Abroad Program and studied from 1976 to 1977 at the University of Konstanz .

After completing his bachelor's degree, he studied economics at the University of Konstanz , where he obtained his degree in economics with his thesis on Stability Optimism and its Importance in Monetarist Theory . From 1987 to 1989 he was a research assistant at Robert Leu's Chair for Economics at the University of St. Gallen , where he began his doctoral studies. In 1989 he was with his thesis Economic Issues of Multinational Enterprise Dr. oec. PhD . Subsequently he was a full-time lecturer in economics at the University of St. Gallen from 1989 to 1995. During this time he was also a Visiting Scholar (1991 to 1992) at the University of Reading . In October 1993 he completed his habilitation at the University of St. Gallen on the subject of Networking in Multinational Enterprises: The Importance of Strategic Alliances and was elected assistant professor for economics at the University of St. Gallen in 1995. In October 1996 he was appointed professor for international economic relations and macroeconomics at the University of Paderborn and has held the chair there ever since. From 2003 to 2007 he was elected Vice Rector for Studies, Teaching, Further Education and International Relations at the University of Paderborn.

His main research interests are foreign trade theory and policy, macroeconomics and multinational companies .
