Bernard Piché

Bernard Piché (born April 10, 1908 in Montreal , † December 4, 1989 in Trois-Rivières ) was a Canadian organist , composer and music teacher .

Life

Piché was the son of the organist Joseph Piché and a student of Hervé Cloutier . From 1926 he worked as an organist at the Church of St-Nicolas and later at Notre-Dame-de-la-Défense . As a winner of the Prix ​​d'Europe , he studied from 1932 at the Brussels Conservatory with Paul de Maleingreau and then in Paris with Charles Tournemire .

From 1932 to 1945 he was the organist of the Cathedral of Trois-Rievières. In 1945 he recorded the music for the film The Singing Pipes on the organ building company Casavant Frères in the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré in Québec . In the same year he made the first of several concert tours through Canada and the USA. Until 1966 he was organist at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Lewiston, Maine . He then taught at the Conservatoire de Trois-Rivières until 1973 .

Piché composed a mass and various organ works. A selection of his organ compositions have been recorded on CD by Michelle Quintal .
