Bernard Schuiteman (born October 3, 1973 in Garderen (Barneveld) , Gelderland ) is a former Dutch football player .
Career
player
The defender started as a stopper for the Veluwse Boys and came to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga via FC Twente . There were only six Bundesliga appearances between 1993 and 1995. In the 1994/95 season he returned to the Netherlands and played for Feyenoord Rotterdam . With this club he became Dutch champions in 1999. By 1999 he had scored two goals in over 80 games before he was loaned to FC Utrecht and made 16 more appearances there. Although he returned to Feyenoord for the 1999/2000 season, he did not get a chance. He moved to Austria for the Grazer AK , but even there he only made seven appearances.
Then he went back to Germany; in the 2000/01 season he played eight games for 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the second division. In the following season at SpVgg Unterhaching he played twice. His next clubs were Apollon Limassol in Cyprus and Cambuur Leeuwarden in the Netherlands.
He last played at ASK Ybbs in the 2. Landesliga West in Lower Austria .
Trainer
His first position after his active football career was in Lower Austria at FC Waidhofen / Ybbs as a youth coach and sports director, from there in 2010 he moved to Upper Austria to the Linz Football Academy , where he coached the local U18 team for two years. With the new 2012 season, Schuiteman returned to Twente Enschede in the Netherlands as a scout . Further stations as a scout were Rapid Vienna , Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers , and Schuiteman has been the new sports director of the Swiss football club Grasshoppers Zurich since April 9, 2020 .
