Bernd-Peter Lange (English studies)

Bernd-Peter Lange (born March 24, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German English graduate and university professor. Lange is a professor emeritus for English literature and cultural studies at the Institute for Foreign Language Philologies of the Faculty of Humanities, Social and Educational Sciences at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg .

Life

Bernd-Peter Lange studied English, general and comparative literature and German at the Free University of Berlin , the University of Hamburg , the University College London and the Birkbeck College of the University of London . After working as a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin, he taught as a professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig and at the University of Oldenburg and, from 1993, at the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg. Since 2008 he has been a lecturer at the University of Potsdam and from 2008 to 2012 visiting professor at the University of Breslau .

In Magdeburg he played a key role in establishing the focus on “cultural studies” alongside literary studies and linguistics as the third mainstay of the course. He was a co-founder of the European Studies program . In 2005 and 2006 he was dean of the faculty for humanities, social and educational sciences at the University of Magdeburg.

As part of the study and research focus “ Postcolonialism / New English Literatures and Cultures”, Bernd-Peter Lange initiated the scientific exchange with the English departments of the University of Bombay .

Bernd-Peter Lange is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Bengali University Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan, founded by Rabindranath Tagore .
