Bernd Becker (forest scientist)

Bernd Becker (born June 13, 1940 in Augsburg ; † February 14, 1994 in Cologne ) was a German forest scientist and university professor.

Life

Bernd Becker studied forest sciences at the University of Munich . In 1959 he became a member of the Corps Arminia Munich . Bruno Huber was one of his academic teachers . After completing the degree with the forestry diploma and doctorate to Dr. oec. publ. he joined the University of Hohenheim in 1972 as a research assistant and academic adviser . In 1972 he was promoted to senior academic councilor. In 1977 he was appointed an expert in dendrochronology at the Academy of Sciences and Literature . In 1983 he qualified as a professor at the University of Hohenheim in the field of botany with a focus on dendrochronology . In 1993 he was appointed adjunct professor.

Becker's research dealt mainly with tree ring analysis and dendrochronology, of which he is counted as a pioneer.

After his death, his collection of the cactus genus Gymnocalycium was transferred to the Hohenheim Gardens .
