Bernd Kruel (born June 1, 1976 in Hagen ) is a former German basketball player .

Player career

Kruel made his Bundesliga debut for his home club Brandt Hagen . He ran for the club until December 2003 when Brandt Hagen filed for bankruptcy and withdrew from the first division. He joined the Frankfurt Skyliners , with whom he became German champion in 2004.

From 2006 to 2008 Kruel played for Telekom Baskets Bonn and was able to advance with them to the final of the German championship in 2008. There they lost to Alba Berlin.

In 2008 Bernd Kruel signed a three-year contract with Phoenix Hagen , and there were considerations that he would then join the management team at Phoenix Hagen. However, nothing concrete emerged, so he continued his career as a basketball player. After the 2013/2014 season, Kruel Phoenix left Hagen. After leaving Phoenix Hagen, the club announced that their jersey number 15 would no longer be awarded in the future. After leaving Hagen, however, he did not end his active career as expected, but moved to the 1st Regionalliga West to the RheinStars Cologne . There he was supposed to help lead the young team and won the championship title with the Cologne team in 2015. The club received a license for the 2nd Bundesliga ProA for the following season 2015/16 , so skipped the ProB after the promotion. Kruel played for the RheinStars in the ProA in 2015/16, he also worked as an assistant coach for the Cologne U19 team in the youth basketball league and worked on the office. In April 2016 he declared his playing career over.

In April 2017 he started a position in the sponsorship and sales department at Phoenix Hagen.
