Bernd Maier (born November 30, 1974 in Giengen ) is a former German soccer player . He played 96 games in German professional football, and the defensive midfielder scored four goals.

career

As a young player, Maier left his hometown club RSV Hohenmemmingen in 1996 to join the then regional league team SSV Ulm 1846 . With this he rose in 1998 to the 2nd Bundesliga . In his first season in professional football, he played all 34 games. He also did not miss a minute of the game and marked on the 32nd matchday against the Stuttgarter Kickers in the 80th minute his only goal of the season to make the decisive 3-1; with an own goal in the 89th minute, he also scored the 3-2 final score.

In the following Bundesliga season Maier came to 24 missions. When the club won 2-1 away at Hamburger SV , he scored his only first division goal . After relegation, he remained loyal to the sparrows and played 28 times in second class for the club. When the direct march through to the amateur camp was established, he switched to league rivals 1. FC Saarbrücken , where he was a supplementary player and mostly just sat on the bench.

Therefore Maier returned to SSV Ulm in 2002 and played one season in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . In 2003 he moved to the regional league for VfR Aalen , where he was a regular for four years. In 2007 he returned to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg and took over the position of team captain at 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 for a short time . After advancing to the Regionalliga Süd, he was promoted to the 3rd division with the FCH in 2009 . In this league, however, he was no longer used, he ended his career in 2010.
