Bernd Scholz-Reiter

Bernd Scholz-Reiter (born May 29, 1957 ) is a German industrial engineer and has been Rector of the University of Bremen since September 1, 2012 .

Life

Scholz-Reiter studied industrial engineering, specializing in mechanical engineering, at the Technical University of Berlin . After receiving his doctorate in Berlin in 1990 on the "conception of a computer-aided tool for the analysis and modeling of integrated information systems in manufacturing companies" , he was an IBM World Trade Postdoctoral Fellow at the IBM TJ Watson Research Center , Yorktown Heights, NY, USA, until the end of 1991 . There he worked in manufacturing research. He then worked as a research assistant at the TU Berlin. In 1994 he was appointed to the new chair for industrial information technology at the Brandenburg Technical University in Cottbus . From 1998 to 2000, Scholz-Reiter was also head of the Fraunhofer Application Center for Logistics System Planning and Information Systems in Cottbus, which he founded.

Since 2000 Scholz-Reiter has been working in the field of planning and control of production technology systems in the field of production technology at the University of Bremen. Since 2002 he has headed the Bremen Institute for Production and Logistics (BIBA); since 2007 as managing director. In 2011 he was elected rector of the University of Bremen to succeed Wilfried Müller .

Memberships

Scholz-Reiter is a full member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), a member of the Scientific Society for Production Technology (WGP), a member of the university teaching staff and operational organization (HAB), member of the European Academy of Industrial Management (AIM) and member of the advisory board of the Schlesinger Laboratory for Automated Assembly of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel.

From 2002 to 2007 Scholz-Reiter was a member of the Senate and Approval Committee for the Collaborative Research Centers of the German Research Foundation (DFG). From 2007 to 2012 he was Vice President of the German Research Foundation.

Scholz-Reiter is the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 637 “Self-Control of Logistic Processes - A Paradigm Shift and Its Limits”, the International Graduate School for Dynamics in Logistics at the University of Bremen and the Bremen Research Cluster for Dynamics in Logistics.

He publishes the trade journals Industrie Management and ProductivITy Management and is a member of editorial committees of several international trade journals .

Rector of the University of Bremen

Scholz-Reiter assumes that the University of Bremen has achieved a maximum from state funds, students and employees and cannot grow any further. He sees one of the important tasks in expanding the university's premises in order to create good job opportunities for the 170 employees newly hired by the Excellence Initiative in 2012.
