Bernd Tönjes

Bernd Tönjes (born December 25, 1955 in Dorsten ) is a German manager and chairman of the RAG-Stiftung .

Life

Between 1976 and 1981 Tönjes studied mining at RWTH Aachen University . He finished his studies as a graduate engineer. In 1982 Tönjes started as a technical employee “ underground ” at Bergbau AG Lippe. In the process he was here u. a. active as a driver , upper climber and mine operator. From 1988 to 1999 Tönjes held various management positions at Bergbau AG Lippe, Ruhrkohle Westfalen AG, Ruhrkohle Bergbau AG and Deutsche Steinkohle AG. From January 1999 to December 2000 he was also the spokesman for the management of DSK Anthrazit Ibbenbüren GmbH . In January 2000 Tönjes became a member of the board of directors of Deutsche Steinkohle AG, in October 2001 deputy chairman of the board and in May 2001 chairman of the board. From July 2004 to December 2007 he was a member of the Executive Board of RAG Aktiengesellschaft, and in January 2008 he became its chairman.

Since May 24, 2018, he has been chairman of the board of the RAG-Stiftung and chairman of the supervisory boards of Evonik AG and RAG AG.

Tönjes has been chairman of the Gesamtverband Steinkohle eV since 2007. Since January 2016, he has been the moderator of the Initiativkreis Ruhr . Tönjes is deputy chairman of the board of the Vereinigung Rohstoffe und Bergbau eV He is chairman of the board of trustees of Tisa von the Schulenburg Foundation in his home town of Dorsten.
