Bernfried Schlerath

Bernfried Schlerath (born May 15, 1924 in Leipzig ; † May 30, 2003 in Berlin ) was a German linguist .

Schlerath attended the Lessing-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main and then studied in Hamburg , Mainz and Frankfurt , where he became an adjunct professor after completing his doctorate and habilitation. From 1970 to 1974 he was Full Professor of Comparative Linguistics and Iranian Philology at the University of Marburg , and since 1974 Full Professor of Comparative and Indo-European Linguistics at the Free University of Berlin . In 1992 he retired.
