Bernhard Emanuel von Lenzburg

Bernhard Emanuel von Lenzburg SOCist (born November 29, 1723 in Freiburg ; † September 14, 1795 ibid) was abbot of the Hauterive monastery and prince-bishop of Lausanne .

Life

Bishop Lenzburg came from a noble family residing in Friborg, Switzerland, who bore the name Lenzburger or von Lenzburg. After studying with the Jesuits in Freiburg, then in the nearby Cistercian monastery Hauterive, he made his profession there in 1741 , became abbot of the monastery in 1762 and on November 2, 1782 by Pope Pius VI. appointed Bishop of Lausanne (based in Friborg).

He was known as a connoisseur and researcher of the country's history and was in scientific correspondence with Beat Fidel Zurlauben and others. In 1786 he became an honorary member of the Academy of Besançon. He left scholarly works in manuscripts that are now in Freiburg.
