Bernhard Gmelin
Bernhard Gmelin (* 1939 in Kiel ) is a German cellist and university professor .
Life
He studied with Arthur Troester at the Musikhochschule Hamburg , became his assistant two years later and continued his studies with André Navarra in Paris with a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation . As a member of the Schellong Trio, he won the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Prize in 1963 and was sponsored by the German Music Council in 1964/65 .
He had engagements as a solo cellist at the State Theater in Hanover and at the Bavarian Radio . From 1974 to 2004 Gmelin was the solo cellist in the NDR Symphony Orchestra , with whom he appeared regularly as a soloist. He is a professor at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .
