Bernhard Heitmann (born February 6, 1942 in Weidenau ) is a German art historian and museum curator .

Live and act

From 1961 Heitmann studied law at the University of Munich . In 1968 he became a trainee lawyer and in 1971 an assessor . He then began studying art history at the University of Munich, which he completed in 1977 with a doctorate .

At the beginning of 1978 he went to the Museum of Art and Industry in Hamburg . After a year and a half internship, he became a curator there . He was initially responsible for the area of renaissance and sculpture with a focus on goldsmithing and later expanded his field of work to include European collections from the Middle Ages to historicism. One of the exhibitions curated by Heitmann was entitled Gold and Silver from the Moscow Kremlin . For the first time, 17th century Hamburg goldsmiths' work, which is in the armory of the Moscow Kremlin , was shown outside Moscow. In 2007 he retired.
