Bernhard Müller (born July 7, 1973 in Wiener Neustadt , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian author and former politician ( SPÖ ). From 2005 to 2015 he was mayor of Wiener Neustadt.

Life

After graduating from the commercial academy in Wiener Neustadt , Müller studied law for three semesters and began studying political science and journalism, which he completed in 2011 with the title "Bachelor of Arts" (BA). In 1995 he became a clerk for housing subsidies in Vienna, in 1996 he moved to Wiener Neustadt, where he worked for three years in the building law department and seven years at the trade office. As a part-time job, he completed his degree in Public Management, which he completed in 2013 with the academic degree "Master of Public Administration" (MPA).

Bernhard Müller's political career began in June 2003 when he was sworn in as a member of the City Council of Wiener Neustadt (SPÖ parliamentary group). Barely a year and a half later, in March 2005, he was appointed City Councilor for Finance and Economics. After Traude Dierdorf's resignation , he took over the office of mayor of his hometown in October 2005. When the SPÖ incurred heavy losses in the municipal council elections in January 2015, he resigned as mayor on the same day.

In the Social Democratic Party of Austria, Müller has been active in Section 1/3 since 1995 (accession), which he chaired until February 17, 2017. At the same time he founded the “Platform Critical Youth” (PKJ) in 1996, where he also served as chairman until 2001. From 1995 to 2001, Bernhard Müller was also the youth spokesman for the SPÖ city party organization. In 2005, Mayor Müller was elected chairman of the city party. He was a member of the federal party executive as well as the state party presidium and executive committee of the SPÖ Lower Austria. In addition, he was appointed federal chairman of the GVV Austria (previously the local political center of the SPÖ) and is a member of the management of the Austrian Association of Cities . During his tenure, he supported and enabled the foundation of the Stolpersteine ​​for Wiener Neustadt project , which has so far been able to lay more than 100 Stolpersteine ​​in the city. He is currently the general secretary of the Urban Forum - Egon Matzner -Institute for community science research.

He has published several books and articles, most of them in the Association Daily Publishing .
