Bernhard Matthiass ; Also Bernhard Matthiaß (* 26. May 1855 in Loppow in Kreis Landsberg / Warthe ; † 21st April 1918 in Dessau ) was a German jurist and professor of rights .

Life

Bernhard Eugen Cäsar Matthiaß attended grammar school in Potsdam and studied law in Berlin , Würzburg and Göttingen . He received his doctorate in Würzburg in 1881 and completed his habilitation in Göttingen the following year. In October 1895 Matthiaß was appointed professor in Rostock and gave lectures on common law, legal history including exegetical exercises and civil procedure law. A year later he became professor of Roman and civil law there. Once, Matthiaß was elected rector of the university.

Together with Friedrich Heinrich Geffcken , Matthiaß published the "Rostocker Wissenschaftlichen Studien". He was a member of the German Fleet Association and gave lectures on the naval policy of the German Empire in cities in Mecklenburg. In 1916 he retired due to health problems and soon afterwards moved in with his daughter who was married in Dessau, where he died in 1918.
