Bernhard Rhode

Bernhard Rhode (born January 14, 1951 ) is a former German football player who was active in the 1970s for BSG Stahl Riesa in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

At the age of 18, Bernhard Rhode first appeared in national GDR football. For the second team of Halleschen FC Chemie , he played 20 of 30 point games in the second-rate GDR league in the 1969/70 season . After nine more GDR league games in the 1970/71 season, he began his military service in the National People's Army . After its end, he joined the relegated league Stahl Riesa, for whom he played six games in the GDR league in the spring of 1973. After the BSG Stahl had reached the promotion round to the league, Rhode was involved with his four missions in the eight promotion games in the immediate return to the league. 1973/74 he was registered for the league team, but was only used in the second Riesa team, with which he only completed nine games in the GDR league and then relegated to the district league. For the 1974/75 season he was back in the league squad and also played his first five league games. He was only in the starting line-up once, but scored twice. During the rest of the season he played again for Riesa II and achieved promotion to the GDR league with the team. 1975/76 went like the previous season, Rhode was only used in two league games without scoring a goal this time, and was called up for the second team in 14 of 22 second division games. After four seasons with seven league games and two goals as well as 34 GDR league games with ten goals, Rhode left Stahl Riesa at the end of the season and moved to East German league team Stahl Hennigsdorf . There he played only one league game in 1976/77 and then ended his career as a professional footballer at the age of 28.
