Bernhard Rose (born May 22, 1865 in Lohm , Ostprignitz district , † June 23, 1927 in Bad Oeynhausen ) was a German actor and theater director.

Bernhard Rose's theatrical activities began in 1883 when he joined the "Wally" association, which performed in suburban pubs in Berlin. In 1885 he took over the chairmanship of the association, in 1890 he founded his own ensemble. In 1901/02 he gave performances in the German Club (Badstrasse 58), which was Rose's first permanent stage. In 1906 he bought the Ostend Theater, built in 1877 (Große Frankfurter Straße 132, today approx. Karl-Marx-Allee 78) and named it the Rose Theater . From 1914 to 1919 he leased the Walhalla Theater on Weinbergsweg.

After his death, his three sons Hans Rose (1893–1980), Paul Rose (1900–1973) and Willi Rose (1902–1978) continued to run the Rose Theater until it was closed in 1944.

Bernhard Rose has an honorary grave of the city of Berlin in the Georgen-Parochial-Friedhof II .

Honors

At Badstrasse 58 in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen a Berlin plaque commemorates Bernhard Rose, and at Karl-Marx-Allee 78-84 in Berlin-Friedrichshain another one commemorates the Rose Theater.

The special educational support center "Bernhard Rose School" at Singerstraße 87 in Berlin-Friedrichshain is named after Bernhard Rose.
