Bernhard Wilhelm Harperath

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernhard Wilhelm Harperath (* 1802 in Cologne ; † 1864 there ) was a German architect and municipal building officer .

Few details are known about Bernhard Harperath's living conditions. Harperath worked as a municipal builder in Siegburg until 1844 . After the resignation of the architect Johann Peter Weyer from the office of the Cologne city architect, he became his successor in the same year. Between 1849 and 1852 Harperath was a member of the board of the Cologne Cathedral Building Association .

Harperath's work on three new gates on Cologne's banks of the Rhine, which he carried out together with the city's port architect Brunner between 1851 and 1853, received particular attention. A gate building on Filzengraben, another on Bischofsgartengasse and the Trankgassentor are mentioned . The connection between the small island of Werthchen off the southern part of the city and the solid shore and the construction of the Malakoff tower also took place at this time . This resulted in a division of labor between the military and civil authorities, so that fortress engineer Carl Schnitzler was responsible for the designs and Harperath was in charge of construction.

In 1854, the architect Julius Carl Raschdorff was assigned to Harperath as the second city architect , who rose to the vacant office after Harperath's death .
