career

Berni Korbel began his career in the 1970s with his hometown club FC Olympia Bocholt in the then third-class association league Niederrhein . In the DFB Cup 1976/77 he reached the second main round with the club, where the Bundesliga club Tennis Borussia Berlin, trained by Rudi Gutendorf , was only defeated in the replay. In the 1977/78 season Korbel was with Olympia Bocholt Niederrheinmeister and took part in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga , where however Wacker 04 Berlin and Holstein Kiel had to admit defeat. After the top division season 1979/80, the 24-time player from the Lower Rhine region moved to local rivals 1. FC Bocholt , who were promoted to the second division as champions, together with his teammate Herbert Sprenger . Since after the 1980/81 season, however, the single-track second division was introduced, the chances of relegation were slim and the club immediately rose again. In the DFB-Pokal 1981/82 Korbel reached the round of 16 with 1. FC Bocholt, where they were only defeated in the replay of the Göttingen 05 . In 1982, Berni Korbel returned to city rivals Olympia Bocholt. With the club he again reached the DFB Cup 1984/85 and retired after two goals by the young Olaf Thon against FC Schalke 04 .

Berni Korbel played a total of 34 second division games and scored four goals.
