The Bertha von Suttner School and former Heinrich Heine School in Hanover is a school building that was built in the late 1920s and is now a listed building in the Hanover district of Südstadt , Altenbekener Damm 20 . The building, which was attributed to the town planning officer Karl Elkart as one of his most important buildings, was recognized as a creation mainly by the architect Hans Bettex at the beginning of the 21st century .

history

The building complex, intended as an elementary school and built in two parts between 1929 and 1930 with the adjoining gymnasium until 1931, was temporarily run as the Heinrich Heine School, and was later renamed the Bertha von Suttner School .

The Hauptschule and Realschule were run in separate classes according to the type of school. It ceased operations at the end of the 2017/2018 school year.

The integrated comprehensive school IGS Südstadt, founded in 2013, will continue in the same building . A third wing has been added to the building since the spring of 2019 and the first IGS class has been continued in the 11th grade since the 2019/2020 school year.
