Bertram von Rentelen (Council Secretary)

Bertram von Rentelen , he drew Latinized as Bartramus de Rentelen , (* in Lübeck ; † August 2, 1529 ibid) was a German lawyer and council secretary of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Bertram von Rentelen was the son of Lübeck councilor Eberhard von Rentelen and came from an old Lübeck council family that belonged to the von Rinteln patrician family from Lower Saxony.

From 1509 he studied at the University of Rostock , where he also received his bachelor's degree in the winter of 1512/1513. In Lübeck he was appointed as a Magister in 1513 vicar at the altar of the Lübeck mountain drivers in the Marienkirche , after he had previously made a compensation payment to Thomas Giese, who worked in Rome .

He has been the secretary of the Hanseatic City Council since 1521. As Council Secretary during this pre-Reformation period, he conducted the coordination talks for the Council with the Lübeck Cathedral Chapter represented by the Cathedral Dean Johannes Brandes , whose minutes have been handed down. He died on the same day as his colleague, Council Secretary Paulus van dem Velde, of the English sweat , which spread as an epidemic from England via Hamburg to northern Germany this year.
