Thomas Giese

Thomas Giese (born December 21, 1488 in Lübeck , † between July 21 and August 22, 1526 in Rome ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman.

The cleric Thomas Giese was the son of a master baker in Lübeck. In 1507 he came to Rome from Magdeburg . In 1522 Giese became procurator of the Lübeck canon Jordan Basedow . In 1523 he himself received a vicarie at Lübeck Cathedral .

He achieved his lasting importance through his notebook from the years 1507 to 1526, which has survived and was published in 2003 with comments. In these notes he noted his business activities in the vicinity of the Roman Curia . After that he was mainly concerned with business around benefices .
