The Sickersbach is a brook in the Steigerwald foreland , which flows into the Main from the left after a nearly 14 km long, mainly northwestern run near Sickershausen . The brook is a year-round flowing water of the 3rd order and arises on the southern slope of the Schwanberg ( 474  m above sea level ) in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen in the main upper reaches as a Wehrbach .

geography

The Sickersbach as the main line (together with the Wehrbach) begins on the Schwanberghang and ends on the Main and thus reaches a total length of 13.52 km. The stream is only called at the confluence of the right (main) upper course Wehrbach and the left (secondary) upper course Siechhausbach Sickersbach .

Right main strand upper course

The Wehrbach rises on the south-eastern, wooded flank of the Schwanberg (summit at 474  m above sea level ), east of the castle of the same name at about 412  m above sea level. NHN . First it runs in a steep Kerbtal , flows around the Kirchberglein 348  m above sea level. NHN , feeds the city lake and the moat of the city wall in Iphofen and then merges with the Siechhausbach coming from the left, a little west of the residential development of Iphofen.

Left branch upper course

The Siechhausbach rises at about 301  m above sea level. NHN at the western foot of the Vogelgesangberg ( 413  m above sea level ), touches the moat of Iphofen in the south of the old town and flows a little below the western edge of the settlement at about 243  m above sea level. NHN together with the Wehrbach.

Lower course

After the confluence of the two upper courses, the brook is called Sickersbach and runs through an open corridor west-northwest. After crossing under the St 2420 Marktsteft  -  Neuses am Sand , south-west of the Iphöfer district of Gumpertsmühle , it receives two tributaries that merge at this mill and arise west of Iphofen. At the boundary to Mainbernheim , another tributary flows from the right, which rises in the upper reaches in the vineyards southwest of the Schwanberg. Further to the west, the stream passes the chain mill with a small tributary and then the cellar mill in two longer branches. After crossing under Nürnberger Straße, which was the main thoroughfare of Mainbernheim before the construction of the B 8 , the street Am Wehrbach follows it briefly , which indicates that the Sickersbach used to be called here as its main upper reaches. After the intersection with the main road, it flows east through the development on the edge of Mainbernheim, past the sports grounds of the local sports club on the left. The Buschgraben now joins from the left and south-east , in the direction of which the Sickersbach flows past the rest of the Mainbernheim in a wide floodplain. From here to the Neumühle, the Sickersbach is also called the Buschgraben.

In the flat floodplain west of the town wall of Mainbernheim, in which the Franzosengraben also rises, the brook initially runs through loosened buildings, later through open, agricultural corridors mainly to the northwest. Below the Neumühle, the Sickersbach turns slowly to the west and flows through an open landscape. After moving to the city of Kitzingen , the nature of the valley changes: It now cuts more strongly into the landscape, on the northeastern right slope are vineyards, on the left opposite is the Sickershausen district. Due to the terrain of bushes and trees, the Sickersbach in the narrowing valley is approaching the Franzosengraben, which it is at about 198  m above sea level. NHN picks up from the right just before the only street that crosses the brook Sickershausen on the site of a former mill. From now on, a short north, later again running west, the stream divides into two branches, the southern one is called Weidiggraben, both of which frame the extensive school and sports grounds on the southern edge of the Kitzingen district of Siedlung. The northern branch passes the Galgenmühle opposite the sports area and later, after crossing under the St 2271 that follows the Main course from Kitzingen on the left-hand side of the Main , the Hagenmühle. After the two branches have merged, the Sickersbach flows into the Main less than a hundred meters further from the left south of the sports boat harbor.

Catchment area

The catchment area covers about 31.85 km² and is located in the northern Hellmitzheimer Bucht and in the Mainbernheimer level , a sub-area of the Kitzingen Main- level in front of the western Steigerwald in the sub-area of the Steigerwald foreland of the Mainfränkische Platten natural area . The highest point in the catchment area is the Schwanberg, a western spur of the Steigerwald north of the source area, which is 474  m above sea level. Reached NHN . The bay is located on a larger watershed, the waters east of it - the next main body of water is the Bibart - run in the old Danubian direction south-east and ultimately into the Aisch , which also drains into the Main via the Regnitz , but into the Upper Main with one large detour through Middle and Upper Franconia, while the Sickersbach, its tributaries and the other nearby brooks to the Main of the Main Triangle drain.

The competing brook on the short eastern watershed near the Kirchberglein is the Bibspecies that emerge there. The southern watershed separates the catchment area of the Breitbach , which drains downwards from the Sickersbach into the Main , and the next creek there has long been its right tributary, the Moorseebach . Then a piece of southwestern watershed follows up to the mouth of the Sickersbach, behind which the only unsteady water-bearing Main tributary Traugraben is worth mentioning.

On the northern watershed up to the Schwanberg there is the catchment area of the Rödelbach, which reaches the Main a little above in Kissingen on the left-hand side of the Main, then briefly that of the Bimbach on the Schwanberg-Sporn , which flows into the Main in Kitzingen, then a little longer at the northeast corner that of the Gründleinsbach, whose catchment area meets that of the Bibart again, and whose outflow only feeds the Main via the Castellbach and Schwarzach significantly further upstream.

The catchment area of the two upper reaches of the Wehrbach is in the landscape protection area LSG-00569.01 and thus within the Steigerwald Nature Park .

The catchment area is part of the Natura 2000 network and is designated as a protected area DE6327371, Vorderer Steigerwald with Schwanberg .

Geologically, the catchment area lies on the upper reaches and up to the Stadtgrabenlauf around Iphofen in Gipskeuper , the lower reaches in Unterkeuper .

Main river system

geology

In the catchment area, the Triassic strata range from the Upper Muschelkalk to the bubble sandstone of the Steigerwald heights. The latter forms the plateau of the Schwanberg, underneath the Franconian Gipskeuper , in which both upper reaches of the Sickersbach arise. The Unterkeuper begins around the eastern edge of Iphofen , in which the Sickersbach only stays as far as Mainbernheim. There, in fact, two closely adjacent fault lines run from the southeast into the catchment area, between which the stream runs in the direction of the fault in a wedge of the geologically higher Gypsum Keuper; northeast of the right fault, even deeper Upper Muschelkalk appears for the first time in an accompanying strip. Shortly before Sickershausen, the brook leaves the disturbance wedge, which is now containing under layers of copper, to the left, which then ends unclearly in Worm -era gravel next to the Main, into which the Sicḱersbach also flows.

natural reserve

The catchment area of the Buschgraben tributary is part of the Natura 2000 network and is designated as a protected area DE6327372, community forests around Willanzheim , its upper course up to the railway line as a bird sanctuary DE6227-471, southern Steigerwald foreland .
