Location of Neuses am Sand (bold) in the Prichsenstadt municipality

Neuses am Sand is a district of the city of Prichsenstadt in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

Neuses is located in the north of the Prichsenstadt municipal area. Further north is Brünnau . In the northeast lies Bimbach , in the west Neudorf , in the southeast the district of Schweinfurt begins . To the south is the city of Prichsenstadt, to the west Stadelschwarzach . In the north of the village is the Stolzenmühle , which, however, belongs to Brünnau.

The closest larger cities are Volkach , which is about 8.5 kilometers away, and Gerolzhofen , which is 6 kilometers away.

In terms of nature, Neuses and its area are part of the so-called Steigerwald foreland of Neuses , to which the place also gave its name. Characteristic for this part of the Iphofen-Gerolzhofener Steigerwaldvorland is the hilly appearance with the narrow river valleys and small streams.

history

The coat of arms of the Fuchs family at the castle in Neuses

The village did not emerge until relatively late in the 13th century, when the Würzburg monastery had some settlements built on the edge of the Steigerwald. Initially, the Lords of Stollberg held the village as a fief, before it returned to the Würzburg Monastery in 1237. In 1498 the Fuchs and Seinsheim were wealthy in the village. A Hans Dietrich Fuchs zu Neuses has come down to us from 1587, and in 1634 the Lords of Wolfsthal followed as the new village lords. They were replaced by the Counts of Schönborn in 1717 . On May 9, 1812, Napoleon , Emperor of the French, crossed the village on his way to Dresden. His wife Marie Luise also took a break with him in the village at the former post office, which is now an inn on Hauptstrasse.

In 1972 the place became part of the newly formed Prichsenstadt community. In 2011 the Franconian cube was awarded in Neuses . Representatives from the three Franconian administrative districts were honored for their typically Franconian character.

Attractions

The local Catholic branch church is dedicated to St. Michael. It dates from 1733 and was given a roof turret on the west side. A late Gothic wooden figure from 1480 is the most valuable piece of equipment. A crucifix from 1550, an altar from 1674 and other Baroque figures complete the interior.

The castle Neuses am Sand was the seat of the changing village lords. The oldest elements date from the 15th century; a two-storey residential wing, a round tower and a stair tower have been preserved from the original square complex . A coat of arms of the Lords of Wolfsthal adorns the portal. There is a wayside shrine from 1803 in the village .
