The Neuses am Sand Castle is a former moated castle in Neuses am Sand , a district of Prichsenstadt in Kitzingen ( Lower Franconia in Bavaria ). Since 1998 it has served as a wellness hotel and restaurant with an attached winery under the name Wörners Schloss . Two outer towers and the stair tower in the inner courtyard are still preserved from the former four-tower complex .

history

In 1498 the castle was owned by Hans Fuchs von Bimbach and Hermann von Seinsheim. Later it passed entirely to the Fuchs family, whose coat of arms, restored in 2005, can be seen at the entrance. In 1643 the manor came to Hans Wolf von Wolfsthal . His son Phillipp Gaston Graf Wolf von Wolfsthal, who built Zeilitzheim Castle , married Amalie Magdalena Fuchs von Bimbach, who brought Neuses Castle into the marriage as a dowry . Phillipp von Wolfsthal designed the weather vane that adorns the spire in the courtyard of the palace. It bears the year 1682 and the name Phillipps. The horse appears on it for the first time in the von Wolfsthal coat of arms.

Since Phillip von Wolfsthal left no heir, the family died out with him in 1717. The property went to the Counts of Schönborn-Wiesentheid on the basis of an inheritance contract , whose county also included Neuses am Sand. The von Wolfsthal coat of arms still adorns the portal of the stair tower.

In 1900 the castle and its agricultural land were leased to the Breitwieser family. Three of the daughters were married to Karl Rasp (tenant of Schloss Bimbach and co-buyer of Schloss Neuses (60%)), Jakob Funk (son Friedrich Funk bought Schloss Neuses to 40% in 1936) and Jakob Wörner (tenant of Lisberg). Heinrich Wörner, a son of Jakob Wörner, first bought the Rasp ownership shares in 1949 and shortly afterwards also the 40% of his cousin Friedrich Funk, with whom he had managed the farm together until then.

In 1969 Albrecht Wörner took over the castle together with the farm and established a winery and hotel there . The Popp family was the previous tenant of the castle. The castle is classified as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments, the remains underground are noted as a ground monument.
