The hunting lodge in Ilmbach

The Ilmbach Castle is located in the same village, a district of Prichsenstadt in the Steigerwald.

history

A castle originally stood here, which was converted into a Carthusian monastery in 1453 . The monastery fell into disrepair and a hunting lodge was built in its place in 1873 after the secularization . Since then, it has served the Schönborn family as a hunting lodge and residence. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation runs the castle under monument number D-6-75-158-66. The underground remains of the previous buildings are listed as ground memorials.

Building description

The castle consists of two floors, each subdivided by three window axes . It was built from hewn natural sandstone. A high gable roof completes the building. It has triangular gables and an attic with a dormer on each side.

A special feature is the round stair tower in one corner of the building with a tower crowned with a pointed helmet. The area is surrounded by a wall into which parts of the old monastery wall are integrated. A wrought iron gate forms the entrance.
