The castle in Bibergau

The Bibergau Castle is a former noble residence in Dettelbacher district Bibergau in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen. The castle is located on the western edge of the village.

history

Unlike most other castles in Franconia, the castle in Bibergau cannot look back on a history that goes back to the Middle Ages. It was not until the second half of the 16th century that a previous building, a moated castle , was built in the same place as the current facility. It is unclear who built the castle. The aristocrat Jörg von Fronhofen is believed to be the builder , whose family was well off in the village.

The facility changed hands in the 16th century. The Fuchs von Bimbach received the castle and built today's Renaissance buildings. In 1613, the Bibergau possessions with the castle came to the Lords of Seckenheim and Reinhard von Mauchenheim called Bechtolsheim . Their families owned the castle until the 20th century. In 1910 the plant came to the Reichsrat Oskar von Deuster, whose family had been ennobled in 1884. Today the castle is in private hands. The upper floors are inhabited and there is a restaurant in the basement. The castle is listed as a monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments, the remains of the previous buildings are classified as a ground monument.

description

Of the originally larger complex, only the residential building and an attached tower from the previous castle have survived. The residential building is three-storey and ends with a stepped gable to the north . Two wide buttresses on this gable side date from the time it was built and are due to the slightly yielding ground conditions in which the original "Weiherschloss" was set. The windows are simply grooved .

The square tower adjoins the building in the south. It has small late Gothic windows and ends with a tent roof and a wind direction indicator at the top. Only a part of the former moat is preserved in the east, which is filled with water again.
