Hunting and summer palace of the Counts of Castell-Rüdenhausen on the Friedrichsberg / Steigerwald near Abtswind

The Friedrich Schloss is a former hunting lodge on the district of the market Abtswind in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen. It was built at a height of 463 meters on the back of the so-called Friedrichsberg in the Steigerwald .

history

Originally the forest around the castle was called "Am Mönchsberg" and for a long time was the property of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach in the Steigerwald. Count Johann Friedrich exchanged the building site for several vineyards and some tree fields.

The castle was built in the 18th century near the village of Abtswind on a hill on the Steigerwald steep step, the builder was Count Johann Friedrich zu Castell-Rüdenhausen , the Steigerwald hill has been called Friedrichsberg ever since. The building was erected in 1735 in the Baroque style. After the old Rüdenhausen line died out , the new Castell-Rüdenhausen line received the castle. It is still inhabited by the family at times. In the 20th century, further buildings were built around the castle, including a forester's house and a former excursion restaurant that is no longer used, as well as a viewing platform.

The castle is listed as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments.
