The castle in Fröhstockheim

The Fröhstockheim Castle is a former noble residence in Rödelseer district Fröhstockheim in the district of Kitzingen in Lower Franconia. It is located in the south of the village on Kirchgasse.

history

The history of the castle is closely linked to that of the town of Fröhstockheim. A noble residence in the village was first mentioned in the 13th century. Ministerials of the Counts of Hohenlohe sat in the village, Albrecht Fuchs von Stockheim was named in 1220. In 1455, Karl von Heßberg acquired the von Hohenlohe fief. In 1525 insurgents burned down the aristocratic residence in the German Peasants' War .

The son of Karl von Heßberg sold the ruins and the fiefdom to the von Crailsheim family . The first owner from 1543 was Wolf von Crailsheim, who began to build the castle again. During the work, however, the Crailsheimer sat in a different castle in Mainsondheim. The new castle was completed under his son Ernst and the family could move in. In the meantime, the Counts of Henneberg had established themselves as the new fief holders ; henceforth they only gave Fröhstockheim to those of Crailsheim.

In the 18th century the roofs of the castle were renewed in the Baroque style. It was not until the beginning of the 19th century that the members of the Crailsheim family lost secular power over Fröhstockheim. However, the castle remained in their possession. After the Second World War , an American company moved into the castle, and the Crailsheim family was housed in the farm buildings.

After the war, the Crailsheimers sold their Rödelsee Castle and used the proceeds to renovate the buildings in Fröhstockheim. The farm buildings were converted into a farm. The castle was renovated again in 1976. The Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments classified the castle as a monument under the number D-6-75-161-20. The underground remains of the previous development are listed as a ground monument.

description

Fröhstockheim Castle

Only the moat has survived from the earlier moated castle. The castle itself is a two-storey four-wing complex with an inner courtyard. Round towers were built on three corners . They end with double-retracted hoods and two cornices one on top of the other. The fourth tower, erected polygonally, stands free and is only connected to the main building by a covered corridor.

Simple, profiled walls delimit the castle's rectangular windows. A mansard roof closes the building sections at the top; it was cleared with dormers. The portal was designed with a round arch, a relief with the alliance coat of arms of the Crailsheim and Zobel families is attached above the portal. The southeast corner of the inner courtyard has a polygonal stair tower. A spiral staircase was installed inside.
