Großlangheim Castle

The castle Großlangheim is the ruins of a medieval moated castle in Großlangheim (On Schlosshof 18) in the district of Kitzingen in Bavaria .

history

In the 14th century the castle was first mentioned as the property of the Counts of Castell . They sold them to Count Jörg zu Hammelburg . However, this purchase was later canceled. The main house was destroyed in the German Peasants' War and was not rebuilt afterwards. The half-destroyed castle was given to Ulrich von Knöringen during the Second Margrave War in 1553/1554 . In 1574, however, the Counts of Castell were again in possession of the castle. The castle was still being used as a quarry in the 16th century.

description

From the late medieval, large square complex with a moat , the stone bridge, the curtain wall and the moat, which is partly filled with water, as well as remains of the foundation walls are still preserved.
