Mainsondheim Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mainsondheim Castle is a former noble residence in Dettelbacher district Mainsondheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen. It is now inhabited by the von Bechtolsheim family.

history

The history of the castle begins with the Middle Ages. Since 1320 the family of the Fuchs von Dornheim had a noble seat in Mainsondheim. The castle was built in the 15th century. Soon after, the village went to the Lords of Crailsheim , and the new gentlemen had the castle redesigned in the post-Gothic style. As early as 1592, however, the gentlemen had to return the facility to Fuchs.

It was not until 1727 that the castle was changed again. After changing rulers, the building was bequeathed to the Barons of Mauchenheim called von Bechtolsheim . The new masters redesigned the castle and expanded it. From then on, the owners did not change anymore, so that the barons , namely Richard Franz von Bechtolsheim, still live in the complex today . The castle is listed as an architectural monument, while underground, archaeological findings are classified as a ground monument.

description

Most of the palace buildings are attributed to the late Gothic period. They have three floors and are grouped around an approximately rectangular inner courtyard. In addition, the buildings are structured by wooden arbors, some of which are multi-story, as well as by balusters and wooden columns. A polygonal stair tower also loosens up the ensemble. It has a pointed arch portal and is structured by figural jewelry.

The south-west of the plant is divided by a round tower. Two semicircular towers were added to the corners of the east wing. They close at the top with slate hoods. The windows of the building have profiled walls , they are partly divided into two parts. The north building dates from a later time and was equipped with a stepped gable . A central main portal leads to the inner courtyard. It has two free-standing columns and was built with a blown gable. A coat of arms of the Lords of Bechtolsheim dates from 1727.
