Fröhstockheim is a district of the municipality Rödelsee in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen ( Bavaria ). The formerly independent community of Fröhstockheim was incorporated into the neighboring community of Rödelsee on May 1, 1978. The place is about a kilometer west of Rödelsee.

Geographical location

Fröhstockheim is located in the west of the Rödelsee municipality. The district of Großlangheim begins to the north , while Rödelsee itself can be found in the east. The municipality of Iphofen begins in the southeast , the town itself is closest to Fröhstockheim. The south is taken by Mainbernheim . The city of Kitzingen begins further west. Fröhstockheim is connected to the Hoheim district via the KT 13 district road.

In terms of natural space, Fröhstockheim lies in the Steigerwald foreland and has a share in the so-called Mainbernheim Plain , which is characterized by gently rolling stream valleys and sanded Lettenkeuperböden. It forms the transition zone between the Kitzinger Maintal and the Schwanberg foreland .

history

Until 1412 the place, which was first documented in 1220 , was called Stockhiem . "Stock" is the reference to cleared land. It was then given the name Froschstockheim . “Frog” probably served to differentiate between similar place names or was an indication of swampy land with many animals of this type. Finally, today's name Fröhstockheim emerged.

In the 13th century a lower aristocratic family had their seat in the place , which is attested in 1220 with Albrecht Fuchs von Stockheim. The Lords of Crailsheim have been based in Fröhstockheim since 1531 . The castle was built in the 16./17. Century expanded as a four-wing moated castle . In 1806 the place came to Bavaria through mediatization . With the Crailsheim Castle, the large estate and the castle park, Fröhstockheim still gives an impression of a former manor in Franconia.

The former municipality had an area of 3.82 km².

coat of arms

Coat of arms Froehstockheim.png
Blazon : “Split by black and gold; in front above golden ground a golden frog, behind a rooted black tree stick. "
Justification for the coat of arms: The coat of arms is taken from a court seal from 1651. Both figures refer to the place name, with the prefix Fröh- symbolized by the frog. The tinging refers to the coat of arms of the Lords of Crailsheim, who ruled the village since the 17th century.

Evangelical St. Laurentius Church

Church in Fröhstockheim

Little is known of the first church building. However, when Fröhstockheim became its own parish in 1330, there should have already been a church. Frescoes from the beginning of the 15th century were discovered in the choir. They were probably painted over white with the word from 1 Cor. 2.2: "For I thought it was right not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ crucified." This biblical quotation was again painted over with white paint. The most important work of art is the tomb of Ernst von Crailsheim, who died in 1596 at the age of 70, and his three wives.

There was a major church renovation in 1875. The report documents further design details: During the renovation in the church interior, the tower was so damaged by a heavy storm that the upper storey of the tower, previously half-timbered, was now solidly built.

Castle of the Barons of Crailsheim

Since Fuchs von Stockheim was mentioned as early as 1220, there may already have been a contemporary residential complex. It is not known when the moated castle was built. It was destroyed in the Peasants' War and Wolff von Crailsheim rebuilt it in 1531. The rectangular building with the corner towers around an inner courtyard makes a fortified and imposing impression.

Memorial stone for the fallen

Next to the church, on the west side, there is the memorial stone for the fallen soldiers of the two world wars. The inscription on the front reads: “Our faithful sons / who sacrificed their lives / for the hard-pressed fatherland / be honor and thanks! Community of Fröhstockheim / 1914–1918 / 1939–1945. “On the back are the names of the soldiers who died in the First and Second World Wars .

Say

There was once a forest between Hoheim and Fröhstockheim, which was called Fröhstockheimer Holz. Immediately next to the boundary of the district stood the so-called Hui oak. It was ancient, but of a relatively low height. Originally the gallows for the felons should have been installed there. Its use as a place of execution meant that many stories were told about the tree in Fröhstockheim.

One is said to have seen a headless rider near the tree at night. Some also reported a man without a head who was accompanied by a dog, also without a head. The forecast after it concerned with the Headless by a judge that an innocent man had put to death. Until the 19th century, those who were deported from the village were pushed across the border to Hoheim.
