As Steigerwald foreshore which is natural space over-head unit 137 within the main unit group Mainfränkische plates designated (main unit group 13). It is a flat, mostly open plain between the Central Main Valley in the west (133) and the Steigerwald (115) in the east . The Steigerwald foreland stretches along the natural spaces on the Main, from the Schweinfurt Basin (136) in the north to the Würzburg-Ochsenfurt Main Valley (133.04) further south. In the south, the Ifftal area (130.01) delimits the natural area around Marktbreit , which is already part of the Ochsenfurter and Gollachgau (130.0). The Steigerwaldvorland is divided into three main units that form an arc around the Steigerwald. The southwest, closest to the Main , is dominated by the large drifting sand areas around Kitzingen and Volkach . Fruit and arable farming predominate here. Further away from the Main, the landscape becomes more hilly and, with its Lettenkeuperböden, is already shaped by the foothills of the Steigerwald. In the villages on the ascent of the Schwanbergstufe (115.00), viticulture is therefore also practiced. The Main itself finally forms the Steigerwald foreland near Haßfurt , where the Haßberge (116), the southern Grabfeld (138) and the Hesselbacher Waldland (139) stretch right up to the river.
