The Rödelsee area begins with Fröhstockheim to the east, the town of Mainbernheim extends to the southeast , while the west is occupied by the Kitzingen district of Sickershausen , which has grown together with the Siedlung district.

history

The church of the village

The history of the village is closely linked to that of the city of Kitzingen. It was part of the Kitzingen office early on, and in the 14th century the Counts of Hohenlohe-Brauneck received village rule over Hoheim. In 1390 it came to the Ansbach margraves , and in 1629 it was redeemed to the Würzburg monastery . In 1806 Hoheim became a Bavarian rural community , in 1973 part of the large district town of Kitzingen.

Attractions

The Catholic parish church of St. George was built as a successor to a fortified building. For the first time a pastor is recorded in Hoheim in 1348, and in 1453 a parish church was first mentioned in the village. The choir also dates from the time it was first mentioned ; in 1707 the nave was added to it. The sacristy was built in the 16th century. Inside, the neoclassical altars predominate, the organ was added to the church with the construction of the nave in the 18th century. A memorial for the fallen in front of the church was made by Richard Rother .

Other sights in Hoheim are the wayside shrines and small memorials that are spread over the village and the corridor. The rectory dates from the 19th century.

Viticulture

Today Hoheim is a wine-growing area in the Franconian wine-growing region . However, the small vineyard has no name. The grapes grow on the Dornberg, which also produces the Mainbernheim plants. Hoheim is part of the MainSüden area, until 2017 the winemakers were grouped together in the Maindreieck area. The shell limestone soils around Hoheim are just as suitable for growing wine as the location in the Maingau climate zone, which is one of the warmest in Germany.

The people around Hoheim have been growing wine since the early Middle Ages . The Franconian settlers probably brought the vine to the Main in the 7th century. Viticulture experienced a major decline after secularization at the beginning of the 19th century. The Franconian wine-growing region was not able to consolidate again until the second half of the 20th century. The use of fertilizers and improved cultivation methods had contributed to this, as had the organization in cooperatives and the land consolidation of the 1970s. Today there is a limited amount of viticulture in Hoheim.
