Repperndorf is a district of the Lower Franconian district town of Kitzingen in Bavaria .

geography

The Repperndorfer Mühlbach flows through the village, three kilometers west of the town center of Kitzingen. In Kitzingen the brook flows into the Main . The Eherieder Mühle is located on the Eherieder Mühlbach, east of Kaltensondheim . Repperndorf was on the Reichsstraße from Nuremberg to Würzburg , to which the street name Alte Reichsstraße refers. The route of the federal highway 8 leads past the building area.

In terms of natural surroundings, Repperndorf is the only district in Kitzingen to be located on the so-called plateaus in the southern Main Triangle , which are counted among the Gäuf areas in the Main Triangle. Typical are the approximately 300 m high plains that slope steeply towards the Main.

history

The place was first mentioned as the Fronhof of the Benedictine monastery Kitzingen in the 11th century. With this he passed into the possession of the Margraviate Brandenburg-Ansbach in 1544 . The margraves dissolved the monastery in their function as pledges of the city of Kitzingen. In the course of the redemption, Repperndorf fell back to the Duchy of Würzburg as an important part of the former monastery . With this it became first electoral Bavarian in 1803 , in 1806 grand ducal in Würzburg , and in 1814 part of the Kingdom of Bavaria . Repperndorf has been part of Kitzingen since the municipal reform , which came into force on January 1, 1978, and today has around 700 inhabitants. Before the immigration of foreigners after 1945, the number of residents was around 500 (1933: 463).

coat of arms

Blazon : “Split by silver and red; in front a red rooster head, behind a vertical silver grate. "
Justification of the coat of arms: A court seal from the 18th century showed St. Laurentius. With the rust, the coat of arms still contains the attribute of the saint, who is also the patron saint of Repperndorf. The former affiliation to the Lords of Hohenlohe and their ministerials, the Knights of Dettelbach , is symbolized by the red rooster. Later the village was part of the Würzburg monastery, the colors of which are red and silver.

Viticulture

Repperndorf is today a wine-growing area in the Franconian wine-growing region . A vineyard exists around the village; the wine has been marketed under the name Repperndorfer Kaiser Karl since the 1970s and refers to the transit of the Frankish king. Repperndorf is part of the MainSüden area; Until 2017, the winemakers were grouped together in the Main Triangle area. The limestone soils around Repperndorf are just as suitable for growing wine as the location in the Maingau climate zone, which is one of the warmest in Germany.

The people around Repperndorf have been viticulture since the early Middle Ages . The Franconian settlers probably brought the vine to the Main in the 7th century. According to legend, Charlemagne is said to have planted the first vine in Repperndorf. In the Middle Ages, the region was part of the largest contiguous wine-growing region in the Holy Roman Empire. The people mostly operated part-time viticulture for self-sufficiency , at the same time export centers were already emerging, especially along the Main.

Viticulture experienced a major decline after secularization at the beginning of the 19th century. Above all, locations with less favorable climatic conditions were completely abandoned. In addition, the emergence of pests such as phylloxera made cultivation difficult . The Franconian wine-growing region was not able to consolidate again until the second half of the 20th century. The use of fertilizers and improved cultivation methods had contributed to this, as had the organization in cooperatives and the land consolidation of the 1970s.

The wine-growing shapes still partly the site, which is about the annual wine festival , today or in the built outside the town center of Area Winzergenossenschaft Franken (GWF) as Winzergemeinschaft francs , reflecting the corporate name. The largest Franconian wine cooperative has its headquarters in Repperndorf because of the town's central location in the cultivation area. A wine and nature trail informs interested visitors about viticulture.
