The Catholic Laurentius Church in Repperndorf

The Catholic branch church St. Laurentius is a place of worship in the Kitzingen district of Repperndorf . The church is on Alte Reichsstraße in the middle of the village. In addition to the Catholic Laurentius Church there is an Evangelical Lutheran church with the same patronage .

history

Repperndorf has had its own pastor since the 14th or 15th century. At that time the parish was split off from the Johanneskirche in Kitzingen. For the first time on May 31, 1412, a pastor was mentioned in the sources. The Würzburg cathedral chapter held the right of patronage at that time . Around 1528 the Reformation was introduced by the Ansbach margrave Georg . Most of the population accepted the Lutheran creed .

In 1629, the re-Catholicization of part of the Repperndorfer by Bishop Philipp Adolf von Ehrenberg ended with the appointment of a Catholic pastor. However, the pastor was driven out again in 1631. In the 17th century the population remained divided between denominations. A so-called Simultaneum was therefore introduced around 1666 , which was also used by the Buchbrunn Catholics. It was only through the foundation of Kaspar Josef Klüpfel in the 18th century that it would have been possible to build our own church, but this did not happen.

On November 18, 1911, the Simultaneum was finally dissolved. A year later, the Catholic community began building its own church. The house of God was designated on September 3, 1911. On April 5, 1950, the Würzburg bishop Julius Döpfner founded a branch church foundation. In May 1950 Repperndorf was moved from Sulzfeld to Kitzingen-St. Johannes changed the parish. The interior of the church was renovated in 1948, and exterior renovations were carried out in 1979 and 1991. The church is a registered monument .

architecture

The east-facing church is a simple hall building with a pulled down half-hipped roof. A staircase leads to the actual building, as the church was built on a mountain. A sacristy is built on the south side of the choir. The nave has two window axes. There are four windows on the west side. The church ends with a roof turret in the west. The entrance with a large IHS monogram is on the south side with four windows. A roof turret in the west closes the church at the top.

Furnishing

The furnishings mostly date from the 20th century shortly after the church was built. The oldest object is a painting of the Descent from the Cross in the nave from the 18th century. The center of the choir is the people's altar , which was installed there in 1967. The tabernacle stele made of sandstone shows a dove of the Holy Spirit at the front and two wooden reliefs to the side with depictions of St. Laurence .

The ambo and the priest's seat , which were created in 1991 by Tilman Hornung from Bergtheim, are much younger . The triumphal cross in the choir arch also dates from 1991. Several figures of saints, including a mother of God, are set up in the nave. 14 stations of the cross , painted on sheet metal, run through the room. The organ originally stood in the crypt of the Neumünster Church in Würzburg and was transferred here in 1978 by Winfried Elenz from Oberdürrbach. The ringing consists of two bells .
