Dettelbach (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Knights of Dettelbach (also Knights of Tetilabach ) were a ministerial noble family based in Dettelbach in Lower Franconia . Her family is documented from 1101 to 1578.

history

The family of the knights of Tetilabach was first mentioned with Helmrich in 1101. She lived in the former Franconian royal court in Dettelbach and converted it into a castle . The Dettelbach knights often appeared as witnesses in documents. As ministerials you were assigned to the Counts of Hohenlohe and had to do military service. After a period in which the names of Dettelbach knights hardly appeared in the sources, the knights reappeared more frequently in the 13th century.

In the 14th century, 1351, Hans von Dettelbach was able to receive all rights in Dettelbach, Brück and Schnepfenbach from the Hohenlohern as a fief . A short time later, the family took advantage of a financial crisis in the Würzburg monastery and further increased their rights. The family reached the height of its power at the end of the 14th century, when it ruled many other places in the Main Triangle in addition to the villages around Dettelbach .

In the 16th century the knights of Dettelbach began to decline. First, the Würzburg fiefdoms were withdrawn, followed by the rapid impoverishment of the knightly family. Their headquarters in Dettelbach fell into disrepair. Christopherus von Dettelbach was the last of his line. After his childless death, the family died out around 1558.
