In the south, separated by the main channel, the district of starts Mainsondheim with the A3 .

history

The place name with the ending -heim indicates an early medieval foundation. Ostheim was probably an extension of the Carolingian royal court Dettelbach from the 6th or 7th century. It was supposed to protect the Rennfurt there and was named after its location in the nearby Dettelbach. In addition to Mainsondheim (Mainsüdheim), Ostheim was also laid out in this way. These site names were typical for the second expansion period of the Franks .

Ostheim was first mentioned in a certificate from the Knights of Dettelbach . In 1303/04 and 1319 they owned several hubs in the "villa" Ostheim. In the 14th century, the village appeared more often in the springs. It was on the Main and was therefore of essential importance for the allocation of fish pastures. In 1365 knight Johann von Dettelbach received several hubs and ten fish fiefs "in Ostheim prope Dettelbach" (Latin in Ostheim near Dettelbach). Ostheim was still a flourishing village in the second half of the 15th century.

A source from around the year 1570 mentions Ostheim as a "formerly a small village" (previously a fairly large village). The corridor of the village comprised around 92 hectares, some of which were probably also on islands in the Main. Around 31 houses were inhabited during the town's heyday. The many floods of the Main contributed to the fact that the population moved more and more to the nearby Dettelbach. Around 1584 the village of Ostheim am Rennfurt was finally given up.
