Location of Kaltensondheim (bold) in the Biebelried municipality area

Kaltensondheim is a district of the municipality of Biebelried in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

Kaltensondheim is located in the south of the Biebelried municipal area, which forms the western end of the district. To the east of the village is the urban area of the district town of Kitzingen , while the district of Würzburg begins in the south . The west is occupied by the Biebelried district of Westheim . There are two natural monuments around Kaltensondheim. A chestnut tree with a wayside shrine was protected in the southeast of the village, as was the wood on the Urzenwiese. A service tree near the place lost this protection status in the past.

The next larger cities are Kitzingen, about 5 kilometers away, and Würzburg , about 15 kilometers away.

In terms of nature, Kaltensondheim is located on the so-called plateaus in the southern Main Triangle , which are counted among the Gäuf areas in the Main Triangle. Typical are the approximately 300 m high areas that slope steeply towards the Main.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1290. The nuns of the Kitzingen convent have been handed down as the oldest village lords. Around 1466 the rule passed to the Lords of Seinsheim , who acquired Kaltensondheim together with the castle estate in Erlach . After the Thirty Years' War the Lords of Schwarzenberg received the place. It was not until 1814 that Kaltensondheim became a rural community in the Kingdom of Bavaria .

In 1978 Kaltensondheim was incorporated into the municipality of Biebelried.

Attractions

The Simultankirche in Kaltensondheim

The most important attraction of the place is the Simultankirche St. Andreas . It was built in its current form in 1712, the previous building dates from the second half of the 16th century. The baptismal font has been preserved from this older church . The altars can be assigned to the early 18th century. The church building was temporarily used as a place of worship by both denominations.

There are several wayside shrines next to the church . Particularly noteworthy is the so-called Christmas shrine, which shows the adoration of the baby Jesus. The original is now in Kitzingen, but Richard Rother made a copy for the Kaltensondheim community. The place also has several 19th century courtyards.
