Protected areas

Part of the Ortolan bird sanctuary around Erlach and Ochsenfurt lies on the territory of the municipality . Three poplars at the eastern exit of Biebelried have been protected as a natural monument. A chestnut tree with a wayside shrine and the wood in the Urzenwiese near Kaltensondheim also have this status . A service tree near the Kaltensondheimer Niederholz, however, is no longer listed as a natural monument. In Westheim the old chestnut was protected in front of the town hall. The linden tree at the rectory was removed some time ago.

history

Until the church is planted

Biebelried was mentioned as early as the 9th century. After the Lords of Biebelried died out in 1244, the village became the property of the Order of St. John and later the Order of Malta . The latter was abolished in 1806, and when it joined the Rhine Confederation , the place fell to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg , with which it came to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1814 . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
In the main street. 11 are the remains of the Johanniter fort .

On September 1, 1897, a parade of the Bavarian II Army Corps took place on a site immediately south of Biebelried between Westheim and Repperndorf. The occasion was the so-called Princely Days in Würzburg. During the parade, many of the monarchs of the German states stayed in Biebelried, including Kaiser Wilhelm II , the Bavarian Prince Regent Luitpold and the later King Ludwig . The parade was captured in an oil painting by the battle painter Louis Braun .

Biebelried has been part of the Kitzingen administrative community since the municipal reform in 1978.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Biebelried.svg
Blazon : "Above a blue arched foot with four silver stakes in red between two growing silver ears of corn, a hovering, notched silver cross."
Founding of the coat of arms: In 1978 the formerly independent communities Biebelried, Kaltensondheim and Westheim became today's community of Biebelried. The coat of arms contains references to these three former communities. The Johanniterkreuz commemorates the order of the same name, which was wealthy in all three places and set up a commander in Biebelried. From 1244 to 1806 he predominantly exercised local rule in Biebelried. The base of the shield comes from the coat of arms of the Lords of Seinsheim-Schwarzenberg, who owned the estate in Kaltensontheim. The silver ears were taken from the lost coat of arms of Westheim and at the same time indicate the agricultural orientation of the community. The coat of arms was awarded by the government of Lower Franconia on September 26, 1991.
Westheim coat of arms
Sketch coat of arms Westheim.jpg
Blazon : "In red three silver ears of cereal growing from a silver mountain on upright stalks."
Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms is borrowed from an official seal from 1638. The tinging probably refers to centuries of membership in the Würzburg monastery, whose coat of arms also has the colors red and silver. The ears of wheat are perhaps an indication of the main occupation of the residents.

religion

The population is predominantly Catholic, Westheim Protestant and Kaltensondheim half Catholic and half Protestant.
