Zeilitzheim Castle
The Zeilitzheim Castle is a baroque country castle in the district Zeilitzheim the community Kolitzheim in the district of Schweinfurt , which was built in the years 1679 to 1683. The client was Philipp Gaston Wolf, Count von Wolfsthal . There is a hotel (garni) in the castle.
location
The castle is located 17 km south of Schweinfurt , in the eastern area of Main Franconia and the Franconian wine country . The castle is located on the southern outskirts of Zeilitzheim, km southwest to between 4 Volkacher Mainschleife and 6 km east, on the edge of the Steigerwald gelegenem Gerolzhofen . Philipp Gaston Wolf von Wolfsthal was imperial colonel in the Turkish wars , district judge in Bamberg, imperial knighthood governor of the canton Steigerwald and all cantons in Franconia, councilor for Mainz, Würzburg and Bamberg. His property included Thannstein, Pillmersried Castle in the municipality of Rötz , Schmachtenberg Castle and Schenkenau , whose county also included Neuses am Sand Castle . In 1706 he was raised to the rank of count. When his only son died, he adopted his friend, Count Schönborn-Wiesentheid (?), As his son. Damian Hugo Philipp von Schönborn-Buchheim became the new resident. Giovanni Francesco Marchini decorated the ballroom around 1735. The Counts Schönborn remained the owners of the palace until the end of the 1950s, but then sold it.
Todays use
The castle has been owned by the von Halem family since 1979 , who have since restored it and made it accessible to the public through cultural events. This work was recognized in 2004 by the German National Committee for Monument Protection with the German Prize for Monument Protection ( Silver Hemisphere ) and in 2015 with the Monument Prize of the Hypo-Kulturstiftung . The restoration and maintenance of the castle are financed by the owners by renting out historical ballrooms and running a castle hotel (garni).
